Down river n8ives.

A fire occurred on Tuesday afternoon in the McKinnon Hill area 1141 heat'math prairie Weitchpec/Hoopa, CA, displacing two families who lost everything. They are awaiting a report from the fire department for emergency assistance. If you can help these families, please contact me to connect with them.

Drones

Has anyone had any experience with drones? I've had conversations with several people in the community who have had drones looking in their windows at night and flying over their property frequently. Has anyone else experienced this? Please let us know!

Food sovereignty gathering cancelled 

It's time for a council meeting today and January 16th 22nd. On the Agenda again....grizzly bears.

If you can't attend in person there is an option for zoom. 
Glyphosate has been put on agenda.The spray schedule is supposed to be being provided to the tribe. We will update as information becomes available in this matter.

Featured story: Basket weaving class

Recently, the basket weaving class has been temporarily shut down due to a lack of participation. We hope to revive this important tradition and encourage our youth to get involved when it starts up again. Let's work together to preserve our cultural heritage.

 

hopefully classes will resume after the first of the year. I will update as information becomes available.

Playground

Living down river makes it difficult to do laundry unless you own your own machines. Most residents do not have their own machines. The nearest laundry facility is 31 miles away, which is nearly an hour and a half drive or more.For several years, the community has been requesting functional washers and dryers.There are two washers and two dryers. Only one dryer works and one washer works with a makeshift fix are currently available for use.
